Petroleum Technology in a Green Environment

Mr. Kevin O'Connell, (UK), is currently one of the Directors of the British Oil Spill Company, who is responsible for the management and development of a company which provides consultancy and training & exercise courses to ensure effective response to oil spill incidents worldwide. 


During his career life he has gained significant experience during several major international oil spill incidents, including the Katina P (Mozambique), The Haven(Italy), The Whitegate Refinery (Ireland), The Sea Empress( UK) and more recently The Prestige (Spain). Further Mr. O'Connell has directed, managed and participated in management, supervisor and hand-on training courses and response exercises in over thirty counties on four continents, including Angola, Bahrain, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, France, Greenland, Ireland, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States.

Mr. Kevin is listed on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) roster of approved consultants and is a member of International oil company response teams where he involved in IMO missions to promote cooperation for National & Regional oil spill contingency planning in the States surrounding the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, and in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and China. Also he is the author of a number of Oil Spill Contingency Plans, including plans for a UK Ministry of Defence service contractor and a major coastal authority in the UK. He was seconded to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK), to advise on guidelines for Contingency Plans for ports and harbours to meet the requirements of the Merchant Shipping Regulations (OPRC)

Mr. Kevin is a Consultant to the IMO for Level 2 courses in Astrakhan and Novorossiysk, Russia and directed IMO level 1 and 2 courses for the Irish Coast Guard and a Facilitator on IMO Level 3 Seminars in Bahrain, Bulgaria, Greenland, Pakistan, Romania, and Russia.
