Petroleum Technology in a Green Environment

Dr. Jerry L. Lyons, CMfge, P.E. (USA), has worked for 38 years as an engineer in design, research and development of fluid components. He is President and Chairman of the Board of Yankee Ingenuity, Inc., a consulting firm in R&D since 1974 and is also President and Founder of Innovative Controls, Inc., a manufacturing company of fluid control devices located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. Previous assignments have included Essex Industries where he served as a Vice President and General Manager of the Fluid Controls Division for 14 years in St. Louis Missouri, USA.


Other previous assignments have included Engineering Manager of Research & Development at Chemetron Corp, Fluid Controls Div., and Senior Project Engineer at Harris Mfg., Co. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia at Dhahran for 14 months.

Dr. Lyons has served as a consultant in fluid power to Bradley University and Wisconsin University Extension. In addition he had the honor to served as the first Chairman of the College of Engineering Extension for the University of Missouri in, Columbia. Dr. Lyons is a member of ASM, ISA, NSPE, SME and is a Fellow of ASME.

Dr. Lyons has been active in committees of various professional societies and organizations. He was chairman and founder of the ASME PVP-OAC Valve subcommittee for 3 terms. He also served as Chairman of the St. Louis Society of Manufacturing Engineers and was a founder and first chairman of the St. Louis CASA (Computer and Automated Systems Association). He served two terms as an International Director of SME, and is a member of the National Forensics Association of Expert Witnesses. Dr. Lyons has taught over 200 short courses and seminars for Harvard Technology to numerous organizations in USA, Canada, Europe and South America.

A prolific publisher, he has authored numerous books and booklets including Special Process Applications, Actuators and Accessories and was one of the contributing authors of the ISA Handbook of Control Valves, 2nd Edition. Dr. Lyons is also the author of the Designers Handbook of Pressure Sensing Devices, the Lyons' Encyclopedia of Valves and the Lyons' Valve Designers Handbook. He is a one of the co-authors of the Product Liability Handbook by Dr. S. Brown and the ASME. PVP-33 booklet entitled Safety Valves. He has written numerous magazine articles and technical papers and is the holder of numerous patents. Diplomas are in Mechanical Engineering from O.I.T., M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Management both from Southwest University, USA. His professional Honors and recognitions have been numerous, including the St. Louis Engineers Club Award of Merit for Research, the St. Louis, SME 1983-84 Engineer of the year award, and the SME International Award of Merit. Other honors include membership as a FELLOW in the Wisdom Hall of Fame and were awarded the Winston Churchill Medal and the President Eisenhower Achievement Award.
