Petroleum Technology in a Green Environment

Mr. Derek Hunter ( UK ), B. Eng. is an International Expert with over 25 years of experience in Crane , Rigging , Lifting and Deck operations , Onshore/Offshore Drilling and Construction operations , transportation of oilfield tubulars and rig mobilization . His experience includes implementation of HSE and Quality policies and procedures, Advanced Safety Analysis , Occupational Safety and Health Administration .  

He is currently the Crane/Lifting Manager for British Petroleum ( BP ) wherein he is responsible for ensuring that all heavy lifting activities coincide with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations ( LOLER ) Standards .

During his career life, Mr. Hunter worked for Brunel Energy as a Heavy-Lift Engineer overseeing the company crane maintenance and operations and ensured that all pedestal cranes are operated and maintained based on the current API RP 2D Fifth Edition . He also worked as the HSE Manager for an international maintenance service company which had active contracts with Shell , Petronas and Nippon Oil . He managed the planning and technical coordination of all crane services and ensured that all activities conformed with BS 7121 Part II (Safe Use of Offshore Cranes) and API RP 2D Fifth Edition standards.

Mr. Hunter's expertise can be traced through his experiences as Offshore Crane Consultant/Training Instructor , Crane Engineer and Technician to various companies such as Offshore Crane Company and Petrobas in Brazil , Sparrows Offshore UK , Woodgroup Engineering and T&M Catto Aberdeen , UK .

Mr. Hunter has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering . He is a certified and registered Crane/Lifting Operations Assessor , Offshore Crane Inspector , Wire Rope Examiner , Overhead Crane Inspector and LOLER Inspector . He is also an active member of Lifting Equipment Engineers Association
